Informed Consent for Therapy
Welcome to Let’s Broach. This document is intended to help clients understand the nature, scope, limitations, benefits, and risks of counselling and therapy services provided through Let’s Broach.
Please read this document carefully before participating in counselling or emotional wellness services.
By proceeding with therapy, booking appointments, attending sessions, or continuing to engage with services provided by Let’s Broach, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and voluntarily agreed to this Informed Consent.
1. NATURE OF COUNSELLING & THERAPY
Counselling and therapy are collaborative processes intended to support emotional wellness, psychological insight, personal growth, coping strategies, relationship understanding, behavioural awareness, and emotional processing.
Therapy may include:
- supportive listening,
- emotional processing,
- trauma-informed approaches,
- cognitive and behavioural interventions,
- mindfulness practices,
- psychoeducation,
- stress management techniques,
- communication support,
- self-awareness work,
- emotional regulation tools,
- referral recommendations where appropriate.
Therapy is not advice-giving in a simplistic sense and is not guaranteed to produce any particular outcome.
2. THERAPY IS A COLLABORATIVE PROCESS
Therapy requires active participation by the client.
Clients acknowledge:
- progress depends on many factors,
- emotional change may take time,
- results vary significantly,
- participation honesty affects effectiveness,
- difficult emotions may arise during therapy.
No therapist can guarantee:
- healing,
- symptom elimination,
- relationship repair,
- emotional relief,
- behavioural transformation,
- or specific outcomes.
3. POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF THERAPY
Possible benefits may include:
- improved emotional awareness,
- better coping strategies,
- increased self-understanding,
- relationship insights,
- emotional support,
- stress reduction,
- improved communication,
- trauma processing,
- behavioural awareness.
However, outcomes vary greatly between individuals.
4. POSSIBLE RISKS OF THERAPY
Therapy can sometimes involve emotional discomfort.
Clients acknowledge therapy may involve:
- difficult emotional experiences,
- recalling painful memories,
- temporary increases in distress,
- emotional vulnerability,
- grief reactions,
- relationship changes,
- confronting difficult realities,
- psychological discomfort.
Therapy may occasionally feel emotionally intense before improvement occurs.
5. THERAPIST LIMITATIONS
Let’s Broach does not guarantee:
- diagnosis accuracy,
- treatment success,
- crisis stabilization,
- psychiatric emergency response,
- immediate availability,
- compatibility between therapist and client.
Where appropriate, referrals may be recommended for:
- psychiatry,
- emergency intervention,
- inpatient care,
- specialized trauma services,
- substance abuse treatment,
- medical treatment.
6. CONFIDENTIALITY
Information disclosed during therapy is generally confidential.
However, confidentiality may be limited where disclosure is:
- legally required,
- ethically necessary,
- reasonably necessary for safety purposes.
Disclosure may occur in situations involving:
- risk of self-harm,
- suicidal intent,
- danger to others,
- abuse reporting obligations,
- court orders,
- legal investigations,
- emergency intervention requirements.
Absolute confidentiality cannot be guaranteed in digital systems.
7. ONLINE & DIGITAL COUNSELLING RISKS
Clients acknowledge risks associated with teletherapy including:
- internet failures,
- cybersecurity risks,
- interruptions,
- unauthorized access,
- confidentiality limitations,
- communication misunderstandings,
- emergency response limitations.
Clients are encouraged to:
- use private environments,
- secure internet connections,
- personal devices where possible.
8. COMMUNICATION POLICY
Communication through:
- WhatsApp,
- email,
- phone calls,
- messaging platforms
may be used for:
- scheduling,
- coordination,
- limited support communication.
These methods should not be used for emergencies.
Response times cannot be guaranteed.
9. EMERGENCY & CRISIS LIMITATIONS
Let’s Broach is NOT:
- a suicide hotline,
- emergency psychiatric service,
- inpatient facility,
- crisis stabilization service.
If clients experience:
- suicidal thoughts,
- psychiatric emergencies,
- immediate danger,
- self-harm risk,
they must contact:
- local emergency services,
- nearest hospital,
- crisis helplines,
- emergency mental health providers.
Immediate response cannot be guaranteed through digital communication.
10. SESSION STRUCTURE
Sessions are generally:
40–50 minutes.
Clients are expected to:
- attend punctually,
- maintain respectful conduct,
- avoid intoxication during sessions,
- engage honestly,
- maintain appropriate boundaries.
Late arrivals may reduce session duration.
11. CANCELLATION & RESCHEDULING
48 hours advance notice is required.
Late cancellations are treated as chargeable appointments.
No-shows are non-refundable.
Rescheduled sessions must be completed within 10 days.
Repeated cancellations may affect continuation of services.
12. RECORDING POLICY
Clients may not:
- audio record,
- video record,
- screenshot,
- livestream,
- distribute session content
without prior written consent.
Unauthorized recording may result in immediate termination and legal action.
13. THERAPEUTIC BOUNDARIES
Therapy requires professional boundaries.
Clients acknowledge:
- therapists may limit non-session contact,
- personal relationships outside therapy are inappropriate,
- abusive, manipulative, threatening, or harassing behaviour is unacceptable.
Services may be terminated where boundaries are violated.
14. TERMINATION OF THERAPY
Therapy may end:
- by client choice,
- by therapist recommendation,
- due to ethical concerns,
- due to safety concerns,
- due to repeated non-compliance,
- due to inappropriate conduct,
- due to payment defaults.
Referrals may be offered where appropriate.
15. VOLUNTARY PARTICIPATION
Participation in counselling is voluntary.
Clients may discontinue services at any time unless restricted by applicable legal processes.
16. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
By booking or attending sessions through Let’s Broach, clients acknowledge that they:
- understand therapy limitations,
- understand confidentiality limitations,
- understand online counselling risks,
- voluntarily consent to participation,
- understand emergency limitations,
- understand cancellation policies,
- understand therapist boundaries.
